M11 Night time closures

National highways be carrying out lighting upgrades from high pressure sodium lights (SON) to LED lighting at junction 8 of the M11 and on the A120 fast link exit slip.

LED lights are better for the environment and use far less energy to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer and require less maintenance, meaning fewer road closures to fix lighting in the future and more importantly, safer roads for everyone.

They plan to carry out this work over 11 weeks starting on Monday 23 September to Friday 6 December 2024. They will work overnight between 9pm and 5am, weeknights only, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the LED lighting upgrades safely, they will need lane closures on the M11 at junction 8. Additionally, the A120 fast link exit slip will be closed for 7 nights from Thursday 7 November to Friday 15 November 2024. The A120 eastbound traffic will be diverted as follows:

  • Traffic wanting to exit the M11 on to the A120 eastbound using the fast link exit slip at junction 8, will need to exit the M11 on to Birchanger roundabout. Continue eastbound on the A120 to Priory Wood Roundabout to continue their journey on the A120 towards London Stansted Airport / Dunmow.

A map of the diversion can be found below.
